# Exercises only a professional can prescribe, and why that protects you

A fitness app that lets anyone pick any exercise sounds generous. For some rehabilitation exercises, it is the opposite. That is why prescription matters: certain exercises only make sense for a specific person, at a specific stage, with someone qualified deciding the dose.

## A part of the catalogue you cannot open yourself

GymAI’s catalogue has a **prescription-only** section. Those exercises are not in the public list and cannot be chosen by the person training. They reach somebody only because a professional named them in a prescription.

These rows sit inside the wider Rehabilitation and clinical world of the catalogue, which holds 1,131 exercises across 160 named conditions: Parkinson’s, stroke and multiple sclerosis, cardiac, respiratory and oncology rehabilitation, hand and jaw (TMJ) work, vestibular problems, lymphoedema and amputation, among others. Much of that world is there to support people. The part that needs a professional’s judgement stays closed.

## Why some rehabilitation exercises need a prescription

An exercise that helps one person recover can set another back. The same movement can be right six weeks into a recovery and wrong in the first week. What decides it is rarely the exercise on its own. It is everything around it:

- **Dose.** Sets, repetitions, holds and rest, chosen for where you are now, not where you hope to be.
- **Timing.** Some movements belong later in a recovery and are better left until then.
- **Response.** A qualified professional watches how you react and changes the plan when needed.
- **Context.** A condition, an operation or your wider health can change what is sensible.

Searching for an exercise online gives you the movement without any of that. Keeping these rows behind a prescription means the judgement travels with them.

## Who will be able to prescribe them

- **A physiotherapist with a verified registration.** Verification will be the only thing that opens this part of the catalogue.
- **A clinic, through its named professionals.** The clinic is the place of work; the verified people in it do the prescribing, never the centre on its own. That rule is written into the clinic account.

A physiotherapist will be able to enrol patients and build the actual table: the days, the exercises and the intensities. Clinics prescribe exercises and nothing more: GymAI does not store clinical records. What the professional writes will be on the record, and what the patient writes about themselves stays the patient’s.

The professional side of GymAI is specified and not built yet; clinics can ask for early access.

## What this means if you are a patient

You will not find these exercises by scrolling, and that is deliberate. If your physiotherapist prescribes one, it will appear in your plan with the dose they chose. If you are not under anyone’s care, the rest of the catalogue is still yours, including 2,529 seated, supported or adapted exercises and water-based work for people who cannot yet load a joint on land. Your pain history, if you record it, is sealed with a key only you hold. If something hurts, or you are unsure whether an exercise suits you, ask a qualified professional before you start.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I unlock prescription-only exercises myself?

No. They reach a person only because a verified professional named them in a prescription. There is no setting that opens them for you.

### Will GymAI store my clinical records?

No. The platform never stores clinical data. Clinics prescribe exercises, nothing more.

### Can I use this now?

Not yet. GymAI is not open, and the professional side is specified but not built. Clinics can ask for early access, and anyone can join the waiting list today.
