# Did you manage it? How GymAI sets your next weight from one answer

Most workout apps give you a template: four sets of eight, add some weight next week. Real training does not move in straight lines. You sleep badly, you miss a week, you have a great day. GymAI is a workout app that adjusts weight to what really happened, and it replaces the template with **one question after each set**.

## One question, two answers

After a set, the app asks: *Did you manage it?* You answer with one tap, for example *Could have done more* or *Did exactly that*. Behind those answers is a well-known idea from strength training, reps in reserve: how many more reps you could have done. If you had plenty left, the weight goes up. If you were at your limit, it holds.

## Why a workout app that adjusts weight beats a fixed template

A template is written before you ever lift. It cannot know that you slept four hours, that a set felt easy, or that you have been away for ten days. So it either pushes you too hard on a bad day or holds you back on a good one. Adjusting from your answers means the plan responds to the person who is actually under the bar.

- **On a strong day**, answering that you could have done more lets the load move up.
- **On a hard day**, answering that you were at your limit keeps the load where it is.
- **After a gap**, the plan ramps back rather than jumping to your old numbers.

## Your history, not a template

Weight and reps come from your own record. The plate maths is done for you, so you see the load on each side of the bar, not just the total. And when you come back after days off, the plan ramps back up instead of pretending nothing happened.

Because the record matters so much, logging keeps working with no signal. Sets, rest timing and the plan all work offline and reconcile when your phone reconnects, so a basement gym does not leave holes in your history.

## Every change says why

When a weight moves, the reason travels with it: a sentence naming the set that caused the change. Your progress screen shows the numbers that produced every trend, including the weeks that did not happen. No black box, and no guessing why the app decided something.

That matters for trust. If you disagree with a change, you can see which set led to it and judge for yourself whether your answer was accurate.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I have to count my reps in reserve?

No. You answer one plain question with one tap. The app turns that answer into a measure of effort.

### Where does the first weight come from?

From your own history. The more you log, the better the plan knows what you can do.

### Is the app ready?

The engine that sets your weights is built and tested. The app is coming with the first release, and the exercise imagery is not in yet. GymAI is not open yet.

The engine behind this is built and tested, and GymAI is getting ready to open. [Join the waiting list](https://gymai.coach/#top) to hear the day it launches.
