Choosing your gym in GymAI is useful: your plan uses that gym’s exact machines. But it raises a fair question about gym member privacy: does the gym now know you train there? No. The gym is never told who chose it.
GymAI is not open yet. This is how the gym side is built, and why it was built that way.
What the gym never sees
- Not your name.
- Not how many people chose it.
- Not when you visit.
- Not your training, your notes or any health information.
What you get when you say “I train here”
When you tell GymAI where you train, you get that gym’s exact equipment, and your plan stops offering machines the gym does not own. No more programmes built around a cable station your gym never had.
The equipment list comes from the gym’s own record, described with a vocabulary of 794 equipment types and 139 makers. What the gym publishes outranks what users contributed, and users can add a gym before the gym itself arrives. None of that requires the gym to know anything about you.
Why gym member privacy is designed this way
The free gym account exists for one purpose: to say what the gym has. It trains nobody and holds no members. Keeping it that narrow is what lets it be free and safe at the same time: a gym cannot misuse data it never receives.
It also means gyms do not need to ask how many members they have to take part. We never ask.
The account holds the gym’s name and address, an email at the gym, the machines it has and the services it offers from a closed list, such as changing rooms, lockers, showers, step-free access or a sauna. It holds no health data, no free text and no photos.
What if you train with your gym’s own coaches?
Paying is a separate decision that gives a gym its own instance to serve its own members. Wherever you train, a trainer sees only what you choose to hand over.
Access to your data is always something you grant. A trainer or physio sees what you handed them, for as long as you leave it handed over, and you can withdraw it.
Frequently asked questions
Can a gym see how many GymAI users it has?
No. The gym is never told names, counts or visits.
Can I still choose a gym that has not joined?
Yes. Users can add gyms before the gym arrives. Once the gym claims its record, what it publishes takes precedence.
Is my health information shared with the gym?
No. The gym account holds no health data. Your body measurements, pain history, missed-session reasons and custom activities are sealed with a key only you hold.
Join the GymAI waiting list, and if you run a gym, read what the free gym account includes.
